Shopping in Helena

Blending local quaintess and National Chains
Afternoon strolls through the downtown walking mall are a favorite pastime here. Art Galleries, candy stores, local apparel merchants, jewelers, crafts and curios surround the picturesque Last Chance Gulch. Local bronze statues stand alongside a gentle stream. There is even a children's fort and play area. Helena is blessed with a plentitude of craftsmen and artists whose work can be appreciated and purchased in many fine downtown galleries and craft stores.

Downtown Helena is a busy and thriving community hub. Downtown merchants get involved with the multitudes of events that come to the local Civic Center, Grand Theatre, and Myrna Loy Center. Downtown merchants are a closely bonded group that operate much the same way more conventional mall stores do. You can even purchase a gift certificate from the Downtown Helena Merchants Association that is accepted by 85 different downtown merchants! These gift certificates are a very popular holiday item come December!

Nationally Recognized Chains
The 1990's brought a retail boom to Helena. Several of the largest retail chains opened big stores in Helena. Wal-Mart, ShopKo, and Target are here. The Bon Marche just recently opened up a new store here too.

Just a couple of blocks down from the State Capitol is Capital Hill Mall. Although not a large mall, Capital Hill Mall does offer the shopper a good selection of clothing and apparel stores.

For the times when you need "Big City Selection", it's not far way. Easy and picturesque drives west to Missoula or straight up I-15 to Great Falls; or down south on I-15 to Butte can satisfy even the most discriminate shopper, with some of the most beautiful country in the world right out your car window to help pass the time.
