Helena K - 12 Education
Helena consistently boasts one of the best public education systems in the state.
Our teachers and our student/faculty ratio are two big reasons why.
Almost half of our certified teachers possess a M.A. degree. Our student/teacher ratio is 15 to 1. While many parts of the country suffer from overcrowding,
drugs, and violence, Helena students reap the benefits of a well educated faculty and smaller classroom sizes in a drug-free environment.
Helenans' dedication to education can be best illustrated by our monetary and voluntary commitments:
- May, 2001 - Helena voters resoundingly approved two separate education levies totalling 14.2 million to improve
the high schools and elementary schools in the area.
- The success of our district's HOSTS (Help One Student To Succeed) program. Program volunteers spend at least thirty minutes each week helping their assigned student increase his/her
proficiency in reading and writing.
Our students are succeeding. Helena students consistently score above the norms in national standardized testing in virtually all academic areas. More importantly, approximately 79% of our high school graduates
go on to a four year college, two year college, trade school, or enlist in the military!
For the sports enthusiast, Helena's Capital High School football team
consistently DOMINATES State High School Football. Since 1973, when Capital High fielded its first football team, the Bruins have made it
to the state championship 10 times, winning seven of those contests! In the past four seasons, 1999 - 2002, the Bruins have fielded THREE UNDEFEATED
teams! Each of these teams capped their seasons with decisive routes of their opponents to claim the state football crown. GO BRUINS!
